BA (Hons), MA in Clinical Psychology,

MSc in Clinical and Forensic Psychology

HCPC Registered, Member of BPS and DCP

I am a Clinical Psychologist with over twenty years of post-graduate experience. I trained at Rhodes University, South Africa. My training included child, adolescent and adult therapy and a strong focus on neuropsychology.

In South Africa, I worked as the Head of Psychology in a large psychiatric hospital as well as running my own private practice. In addition to my clinical work, the hospital worked closely with the psychology department at Rhodes University in the training and supervision of  trainee and intern psychologists.

In 2003, I moved to the UK and since then I have worked in both the private mental health sector and the NHS. Since establishing Psychology Studio I now work solely as an independent practitioner in private practice.

In 2007, I completed an MSc degree in clinical and forensic psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College, London which helped me in my work with those detained under the Mental Health Act and the Criminal Justice System.

MY APPROACH

I am an approachable and compassionate therapist. I prefer to work eclectically and draw on a number of core therapeutic models to aid the work we do. Therapy and self-reflection can be a difficult process and I offer a calm, non-judgemental, private, and safe environment to explore potentially painful memories and feelings. In our work together, the aim will be to help you feel more able to live alongside past experiences and to develop the skills to navigate future experiences more confidently. I offer therapy to those who have a variety of mental health difficulties which impact on their ability to function as well as they would like.

EARLY BACKGROUND

I believe that my clinical work is enhanced by my earlier qualifications both as a registered nurse and a high school teacher. In both of these professions, I worked as a counsellor. As a nursing sister, I provided pastoral care to patients (and their families) who were in the end stages of life; as a teacher, I offered help to adolescents who experienced a range of difficulties.
